Sun, Nov 29, 9am - 5pm PSTJACUMBA HOT SPRINGS SOIRÉE A Performance Intensive & Desert Film Experience with Mardi Love A day of dance, collaboration, and cinematic magic in San Diego’s beguiling backcountry. We are over the moon to offer this extraordinary opportunity to learn and perform an original choreography by Mardi Love, culminating in a professionally filmed dance experience at the otherworldly Jacumba Hot Springs Lake. Two months prior to our gathering, participants will receive an instructional video with the complete choreography to learn and study at home. By the time we meet in person, everyone should be well acquainted with the material and ready to bring the piece to life together. THE DAY 9:00 AM–12:00 PM | Rehearsal & Staging We’ll meet at studio 204 for a three-hour intensive with Mardi, running the choreography, refining details, syncing as a group, and working through staging for the film. 12:00–1:30 PM | Get Camera Ready We’ll have 90 minutes at the studio to dress, do hair and makeup, eat a little something, and prepare for our desert adventure. 1:30 PM | Depart for Jacumba We’ll drive approximately one hour into San Diego’s beautiful backcountry to Jacumba Hot Springs Lake, located on Kumeyaay land. Please be prepared to drive or carpool. 3:00–5:00 PM | Desert Film Shoot Against the surreal landscape of the lake and surrounding desert, we’ll perform and film the finished piece together. Participants will receive a beautifully and artfully edited dance film documenting the experience, which will also be shared on YouTube by year’s end. COSTUME PALETTE: DESERT ROSE- Our visual palette for the film will be Desert Rose, inspired by the soft, earthy, mineral tones of the desert landscape. Melodia Designs is delighted to offer all Performance Intensive participants 20% off for their costuming needs. AFTER THE SHOOT- For those who would like to linger in the magic a little longer, soaking and dinner at Jacumba Hot Springs Hotel afterward are highly recommended, but completely optional. Come prepared to dance, create, play, and make something beautiful together in one of our favorite corners of the desert. Intensive attendees are also invited to perform this piece on the stage at the Los Angeles Gala Show Dec 5, 2026.
