Maree Clarke Artist Talk
Event description
Join Kaiela Arts and SAM for a special afternoon artist talk with Maree Clarke as she commences development of a specially commissioned artwork for the inaugural Kaiela Arts Editions – a new partnership project between Kaiela Arts and Spacecraft. Maree Clarke is a Yorta Yorta/Wamba Wamba/Mutti Mutti/Boonwurrung multi-disciplinary artist and curator who has contributed to the contemporary arts and First Nations cultural story for over thirty years.
Known for her open and collaborative approach, Maree is a pivotal figure in the reclamation and revivification of South-Eastern Aboriginal cultural material objects. She is nationally and internationally recognised for her work which is developed from extensive research into the history of culturally significant traditional objects, and her cross-generational approach to reviving dormant cultural knowledge.
In this artist talk on November 28, Maree will introduce the Shepparton arts community to her past work, discuss her wider artistic practice and talk about family and others she takes along her journey.
Maree’s engagement as the inaugural Kaiela Arts Editions artist will culminate in a limited-edition artwork launching in May 2025.
