Event description

Margaret McIntosh is a 2024 Paddington Art Prize finalist and lives and works in Melbourne. Her work explores the narrative of the everyday and investigates the spaces we occupy, the symbolism in domesticity along with the fragility of the human condition.

In her latest exhibition, McIntosh explores the intersection between urban waste and natural scavenging and draws a parallel between the sprawl of hard rubbish piles and the ritual of crows picking at a carcass. Hard rubbish scavengers repurpose and transform discarded domestic materials not unlike the way in which crows transform death into sustenance.

‘Placky Bags aims to challenge our relationship to consumption and waste, and to reimagine what we call dead, broken or done’, says McIntosh.

Margaret McIntosh holds a Bachelor of Fine Art from the Victorian College of the Arts, where she was the recipient of the Maude Gover Fleay Award. In 2016 she completed a Master of Art Therapy from Latrobe University.

An
Opening Event will be held on Saturday 30th August from 2 – 4pm with the artist in attendance.
