Marine Conservationist for a day (Fitzroy Island)
Event description
Join us for a socially responsible collaboration between YHA and Oceans 2 Earth Volunteers as we work towards creating positive change. Our non-profit initiative focuses on ethics, impact, and meaningful contributions to marine conservation.
Meet our team (obvious in their Oceans 2 Earth blue t-shirts!) at the Reef Terminal at 8:00 am and embark on a journey to the stunning Fitzroy Island. Spend your morning with our expert marine conservation team and volunteers, gaining valuable insights into the Great Barrier Reef environment and the challenges it faces. Engage in citizen science by conducting a snorkelling survey that will help assess and report on the Reef's health.
Following lunch, our First Nations cultural representative will share Dreamtime stories and provide a unique insight into local Indigenous culture.
We'll return to Cairns by 5 pm, having had an unforgettable experience while making a positive difference.
Your day includes:
- Return boat transfers to the island
- Reef and coral education
- Snorkelling in-water surveying
- Lunch
- First Nations cultural education
- Time to enjoy your tropical surroundings
- All snorkel equipment
