Design and Innovation Meetup May 2024: Marine Invaders - From the Lab Bench to Social Impact Entrepreneurship

The Design and Innovation Meetup is back for May 2024, and we kick things off with an inspiring story of science to impact.

May’s guest is Elizabeth Copeland, backer of the Spotty (2024 NZ Fish of The Year) and creator of the Marine Invaders game (https://marineinvaders.com/), aiming to inspire anyone to become a scientist, help protect taonga species and stop invasive pest species. Supported by the KiwiNet Emerging Innovator Programme, Marine Invaders has been taking over Aotearoa, and is quickly spreading further than the pests invading in our coastal waters...

Elizabeth has a unique story of science-based social entrepreneurship, inspired by a passion for real world impact rather than just pumping out more and more publications. This promises to be a great conversation across science, entrepreneurship, design and marine sustainability. Plus, we’ll get the chance to experience the Marine Invaders game!
