LEARN ABOUT FUTURE MARINE PROTECTION WITHIN TĪKAPA MOANA TE MOANANUI A TOI, THE HAURAKI GULF.
Are you interested in the effectiveness of marine reserves or the introduction of newly proposed HPAs (Highly Protected Areas). Do you want to know more about future monitoring programmes for biodiversity and the enforcement of marine protection?
Join Te Kohuroa Rewilding Initiative and guests for an evening of information and discussion around the value of marine protection within our big blue backyard. We are delighted to have four informative speakers who will present about:
- Te Hāwere a Maki Goat Island Marine reserve and the current research findings that show how well marine reserves are coping with increased pressures from overfishing and other human impacts.
- The proposed introductions of HPAs (Highly Protected Areas) within the Hauraki Gulf, how they are different to marine reserves and what value they will bring to the Marine Park.
- Future protection and enforcement of marine reserve boundaries and how community can assist with effective reporting when breaches occur.

There will be time for a Q+A session towards the end of the evening with tea and coffee provided afterwards.
