Mark Twain's American West at the American Centennial

Mark Twain’s early days were formative to his development as American literature’s most iconic character. He would often write and speak about his days as a riverboat pilot, a gold miner, newspaper reporter and world traveler. Performing as Twain, John L Daly will regale you with amusing tales as Twain presented them, bringing to life his early travel, experiences and career.

Twain offered a witty cynical critiques of American culture preceding the Centennial, with his 1873 novel 'The Gilded Age', while at the same time he recoginized the ingenuity of the inventions and progress of the era.

Born Samuel Langhorne Clemens in 1835, he became famous author, humorist, and essayist using the name 'Mark Twain'. In 1876 the year of the United States of America's 100th Aniversary celebration he published his famous novel 'The Adventures of Tom Sawyer', with its sequel in 1884 'Adventures of Huckleberry Finn', which the latter often called the 'Great American Novel'.
