Masquerade
Masquerade
Step into a world of mystery, glamour and intrigue in this creative portrait photography workshop exploring the relationship between styling, mood and light.
Masquerade is built around the idea of the hidden identity, using decorative masks, expressive posing and carefully considered styling to create portraits that invite the viewer to look closer. With Amelia Bloom as our model, each setup will have its own distinctive character, giving photographers the opportunity to create a varied collection of striking studio portraits.
More importantly, this workshop is an opportunity to explore how lighting can completely transform the way a portrait feels. Different lighting approaches will be used to complement each setup, allowing you to see first-hand how direction, quality, contrast and shadow can change the mood, shape and character of an image.
You'll have the opportunity to develop your understanding of:
Creating mood and atmosphere through lighting
Using light to shape the face and body
Working with shadow and contrast
Posing and directing a model to complement the lighting
Using styling and props as compositional elements
Adapting lighting to suit different creative concepts
With a maximum of six photographers, there will be plenty of time behind the camera rather than simply watching demonstrations. Andrew Merefield will guide the lighting setups, provide practical advice and help you refine your own approach throughout the session.
Masquerade offers a hands-on opportunity to experiment, shoot and create. Spaces are limited to just six photographers, so book your place now and join us for an evening of creative lighting, striking portraits and plenty of time behind the camera.
