Masterclass: Running for Public Office as a Multicultural Woman

RUNNING FOR PUBLIC OFFICE AS A MULTICULTURAL WOMEN - with Farhat Firdous, hosted by Fiona Pearman

Multicultural women experience many of the universal fears faced by women seeking to represent their communities, however this is often compounded by cultural expectations, racism and the feeling of having to prove that you belong.

In this masterclass, Women for Election trainer and former councillor, Farhat Firdous shares her personal journey of navigating these challenges while running for office, being in office and supporting other women to run for election.

Through her relatable stories and practical reflections, Farhat explores the challenges of racism (both personal and institutional), cultural pushback as well as family and community expectations.

This session openly acknowledges that these challenges exist; the intention is to provide a space to recognise those experiences, learn from someone who has walked the path, and discover practical ways to navigate these dynamics without carrying the burden alone.

You'll leave with greater clarity about the challenges you may encounter, practical strategies to build support around you, and the confidence that you don't have to face these experiences on your own.
