In this two hour workshop you will: 

  • Uncover underlying factors contributing to challenging behavior in youth, regardless of diagnosis, considering diverse cultural contexts and individual differences.
  • Identify common triggers inadvertently activated by parents and learn strategies to minimize these triggers for creating a more peaceful home environment.
  • Acquire practical tools to effectively manage and prevent emotional meltdowns in children, considering cultural variations in emotional expression and management.
  • Understand the psychological motivations behind parental reactions to challenging behavior within the family systems; with respect for cultural influences and diverse family dynamics.
  • Develop key skills to engage parents sensitively and constructively in discussions about positive behavior change.

9:30-9:45am: Welcome and Orientation - Orient to Self and the Space, Tune into Mission/ Vision for this Time Together (Why is it important for you to be here?)

9:45-10:00am: Professional Background and Context - Introduction to “The Three C’s” of the Mad to Glad Blueprint

10:00-10:15am: Calm: Understanding Brain Science - Explore what’s happening in the brain beneath challenging behaviors and effective strategies

10:15-10:30am: Experiential Activity: Parental Triggers - Empathetic exploration and humorous self-reflection on inadvertent triggers activated by parents

10:30-10:45am: Connect: Managing Emotional Meltdowns - Strategies to prevent meltdowns and build trust and positive connections

10:45am: BREAK

11:00-11:15am: Positive Communication Template - Introduction to paving the way for effective communication; incorporating the Connect strategy

11:15-11:45am: Implementation Strategies - Practical takeaways and quick-action plan for immediate use

2 hours of Continuing Education approved by MN Board of Marriage and Family Therapy and MN Board of Behavioral Health & Therapy
