Event description

Manipulate the motion of water to create ethereal photographs with neutral density filters.

In this workshop we will make fine art photographs at the iconic location of Point Judith Lighthouse in Narragansett RI. We will learn what neutral density filters are, what they do to an exposure and how to determine which filter is best for a given situation and your personal taste. We will explore how changing shutter speeds affects the aesthetics of water in motion and discover your favorite artistic look. As part of the workshop, we will work through a case study on how to create a 10 second exposure and in doing so understand what a “stop of light” is and how to create one. A Neutral Density Filter Learning Guide is included in the workshop.

Refund policy

Once workshops are paid in full, no refunds or credits will be granted. You may self-refund directly within your booking confirmation for 50% of the total if the workshop is 30 or more days away. Within 30 days, you will not be granted a refund of any kind. This is to ensure fairness to our instructors who work hard developing their programs, and to other students. Booking fees are never refundable (we don't have control over them. They are donated to charities by the booking platform) Workshop fees are not valid toward any photo tour, private experience, or otherwise, and vice versa. Workshops are conducted rain or shine, unless a determination has been made in an emergency or other event rendering the workshop unsafe or impossible. In this case, registrations are provided full refunds.

Dave is a Rhode Island based fine art photographer. He has had a love affair with making photographs for 40 years. For Dave, sunrise and sunset represent powerful forces of peace, tranquility, and rejuvenation. These forces are the common theme of Dave’s photography. Dave’s work is published in local calendars and publications, including the cover of South County Life Magazine. Dave also works on commissioned projects where the subject, mood and feel of a photograph are specially crafted for the buyer and their space. Dave is a natural teacher and mentor. He enjoys the creative process of discovery, learning and growth. Dave offers individualized photography coaching sessions through his course “Yes You Can Photography” where he teaches you how to move from taking photographs to intentionally making photographs. Sessions are held both virtually and in person.
