MATARIKI JOGAKBO COMMUNITY PATCHWORK WORKSHOP

Jogakbo is a hand sewn patchwork technique that is deeply rooted in Korean culture. It is an extension of the broader tradition of Bojagi, the practice of using wrapping cloths for various purposes, such as storing, carrying, or protecting valuable items. Jogakbo specifically refers to Bojagi made from leftover scraps of fabric, often created by women in domestic settings as a way of conserving material during times when textiles were scarce and extremely precious. 

In this workshop Steven Junil Park will teach the hand sewing techniques associated with Jogakbo and participants will contribute to a collective piece that began its life during a Te Tiriti workshop facilitated by Asians Supporting Tino Rangatiratanga in 2024. In the spirit of togetherness during the time of Matariki we will join the work of our hands in an act of shared solidarity.

All materials will be provided. All levels of sewing ability are welcome!
