Event description

When Georgia Latu (Kai Tahu, Ngāpuhi) was 12 years old she started a poi business with her whānau in her lounge. Today she is the 15-year old C.E.O behind Pōtiki Poi, the largest poi manufacturer in the world. Georgia has a growing positive social media platform and is regularly invited as a Youth ambassador to share her business journey and her love of poi and all things Māori.

Her pakihi makes, sells and distributes poi and poi merch online, to retailers, schools and kapaphaka groups. Pōtiki Poi is founded on environmental and social values:

  • acknowledge ao Māori, revitalising all things Māori
  • including all walks of life, especially those with diverse abilities
  • creating products that are environmentally considerate, sourcing second hand materials and biodegrading plastic

If you are curious about poi and want to learn more about it, you are in luck! Join Georgia for a poi workshop where you'll learn how to use poi and the whakapapa behind it. It is a fun and safe space for all whakaaro and all people.

    Please note:
The Pōtiki Poi workshops are aimed at children aged 8-14 years. Parents will need to remain on-site for the event and contact details may be required on the day.
