Event description

This event is for:
  • Professional educators
  • Parents/carers and other adult guardians and role model
  • Anyone interested in playful and positive approaches for learning and teaching maths

Why attend this event:

Are you interested in how maths teaching and learning approaches have changed in recent years?

Do you like to explore new ways of thinking about, and presenting, maths concepts in your role as an educator?

Would you like to be part of a growing movement working to bust damaging myths about learning, reunite maths with play, and have some fun along the way?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, then we'd love to see you at this event.

Come along to this Maths Play Launch Party where we will celebrate this year's International Day of Maths theme - Maths for everyone!

In our 1-hour together, we will:

✨ explore open-ended activities with positive messages, and powerful ideas that anyone of any age and any mathematical experience can explore.

✨ access resources to support a playful maths learning journey

✨ learn more about the Maths Play Movement. You'll also be invited to share any ideas you have for future activities

Interactive participation is optional - feel free to share ideas in the chat or on social media as we play, or be a fly on the (virtual) wall

An event recording will be available until the end of March.

The event team:

Featured Presenter: Marissa Cashmore, Primary Teacher and Maths Specialist based in Melbourne, Victoria. Well-respected in the maths education community, Marissa is known for creating learning experiences that build self-belief in students regarding their mathematical ability. Her specialisations include using rich mathematical tasks to include and engage all learners.

Session Host: Alex Box. Alex is a Primary Teacher and Education Researcher specialising in mathematical play.  Alex identifies as formerly maths-anxious, and so brings important perspectives to conversations about learning maths. These days, Alex coordinates Maths Play activities.
