Event description

Pulteney Grammar School proudly presents its 2021 Year 7 - 12 musical production: Matilda

Based on Roald Dahl's beloved children's story, Matilda follows the journey of an extraordinary girl with the gift of telekinesis who loves to read. The daughter of neglectful parents Mr and Mrs. Wormwood, Matilda finds refuge in library books, allowing her wonderful imagination to create new stories. Things are no better at school, where Matilda must face a tyrannical and cruel headmistress, Miss Trunchbull, who believes in Crunchem Hall's motto: 'Bambinatum Est Magitum' (...or, 'children are maggots'). Matilda finds companionship in her teacher, Miss Honey - who is kind and well-intentioned, but shy and fragile. Brave Matilda knows she has to stand up to the adults in her world, and in doing so, discovers her own remarkable powers. Matilda's bravery teaches Miss Honey and her classmates an important lesson: that even though life can be hard at times, "nobody but me is gonna change my story", so "...sometimes, you have to be a little bit naughty".

With memorable characters and a funny, emotive score, we invite you to celebrate the creativity, talent and hard work of over 100 Pulteney students and staff both on and offstage.
