  Deborah Brown

  Deborah was a Senior Artist for Bangarra Dance Theatre from 2003 to 2017. She was awarded the 2013 Helpmann Award for Best Female Dancer in a Dance or Physical Theatre Production, Terrain. That same year, she was named one of Arts Queensland’s Culture Champion’s for her contribution to the Queensland Arts and Culture sector as well as making her choreographic and directorial debut, creating a short dance film titled dive paying homage to the Pearl Shell divers of the Torres Strait Islands for Bangarra's season of Dance Clan 3, leading her to co-create IBIS as part of the Lore national season in 2015. Her career highlights with Bangarra were returning to Country - including Mer Island and Yirrkala – performing at the Brooklyn Academy of Music’s Harvey Theatre and partnering with The Australian Ballet at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris. Most recently Deborah choreographed for Bangarra’s 2024 National Tour, Horizon. She also directed Blue for Belvoir St Theatre, having toured to State Theatre Company of South Australia and La Boite Theatre. Her Australian Film, Television and Radio School (AFTRS) capstone project, Bala, made the official selection for various film festivals around the world. Bala is currently screening on ABC iView. This lead her to direct Episode 8 of AACTA nominated Children’s Series, Barrumbi Kids. Other independent works as Director/Choreographer include, Spinifex Gum, a collaboration with Felix Riebl, Ollie McGill and Marliya of Gondwana Choirs, The Wave for Project Animo and hide for Campbelltown Arts Centre.

  Jaime Redfern

  A graduate of the Australian Ballet School, Jaime enjoyed a professional dance career of over 20 years, performing with The Australian Ballet and Queensland Ballet as a Principal Dancer, and with Expressions Dance Company as a Senior Artist. As a choreographer Jaime has created extensively, with original dance works for dance companies, tertiary institutions and arts festivals. Recently he has developed a strong collaboration with Griffith University Film School creating choreography for New York Counterpoint and Divieto D’Affissione Virtual Production short films, which were presented at the Brisbane Arts Festival in 2022 and 2023 respectively. This collaboration led to an invitation by Griffith Film School to write and teach a course, Choreography for Film, a first for Griffith Film School. Over an 18-year period, Jaime held positions as Head of Dance at LASALLE College of The Arts, Singapore (now part of Singapore University) and Head of Contemporary Dance at The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts. In recent years Jaime has focussed on the health and wellbeing aspects of dance with adults, seniors and all access dance classes. Jaime is an Associate Professor and holds a Masters in Fine Arts from QUT, majoring in Choreography and a Masters in Education from the University of Hong Kong, focussing on collaborative alliances, training and research in Dance.
