Join Peter Steele Poet in Residence Maxine Beneba Clarke for an author talk and poetry workshop to celebrate the launch of her recently released poetry collection beautiful changelings. Wrecking-ball revisitings of the myths, mantras and fairy tales fed to girls. Poignant, unashamed tributes to ageing, womanhood, motherhood, and reclaiming your dreams, your boundaries and your time. beautiful changelings celebrates women and girls as the enigmatic wonders they are. 

An author talk and Q&A  will be followed by a short writing workshop, based on one of the poems in the collection. Come along and write a poem. All abilities welcome - no experience needed!

Maxine Beneba Clarke is the author of over fourteen books for adults and children, including the short fiction collection Foreign Soil, the memoir The Hate Race, the illustrated poem When We Say Black Lives Matter, and the picture book The Patchwork Bike. Her poetry collections include How Decent Folk Behave, It’s the Sound of the Thing: 100 new poems for young people, and the recently released Beautiful Changelings. Maxine is the inaugural Peter Steele Poet in Residence at the University of Melbourne.
