Event description

Practicing Together

This will be a day of silent practice in the style of Reflective Meditation (RM). This approach to dharma practice and meditation has an underpinning of kindness, curiosity and permission to experiment, which flows through to our daily life. Our emphasis on reflection, journalling, listening and understanding helps to make way for a new relationship to our inner and outer world.

The day will involve periods of silent meditation, followed by silent reflection / journalling. There will be two dharma talks and the opportunity to be in a small RM discussion group.

Teachers
Anna Markey was introduced to Buddhist practice in India in 1983. She is interested in the early teachings of the Buddha and in using a gentle, receptive approach to meditation to see into our experience in order to bring about wisdom and kindness in our daily lives. Tina Gibson
is a skilled Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC) teacher and is a Certified MSC Teacher Trainer and Teacher Mentor. She has been practicing Reflective Meditation for many years. Tina brings ease, care and gentleness to the way she lives her life and teaches meditation retreats. www.adelaidemindfulness.com

Dâna

The registration cost covers venue rental and associated costs only. It does not include a charge for the teachings, which are given freely in accordance with Buddhist tradition. As teachers are not paid, they rely on the generosity of students. Generosity, or dâna, is a foundation practice of the Buddha's path of liberation.

What to bring

A journal, meditation cushion or anything else to keep you comfortable. Chairs are available. There is a beautiful garden - so please bring whatever you may need to be out in the weather of the day if you choose.

Please bring your own lunch and drink bottle so you can remain in the serene Sophia venue for the day. Otherwise, rest assured there are cafes and shops in walking distance if needed.

Coffee and a variety of teas will be provided.

The retreat will start promptly at 10am.  Please arrive in time (from 9.30am onwards) to grab a cuppa, choose a place and set yourself up.

Newcomers to Reflective Meditation (RM), or those keen to re-connect with this approach are invited to a Zoom session with Anna and Tina on Monday 19th of May from 7 to 8pm. Details will be sent out closer to the date.
