With a projected population of 9 million people by 2050, Melbourne must invest in its economy to maintain its standing as a global city of the 21st century. In the decades ahead, globalisation, the continuing rise of Asia, the climate crisis and our ageing population will continue to drive fundamental change in Australia and Victoria. Failure to tackle intergenerational challenges risks severe economic, fiscal and environmental consequences; the right decisions now promise an exceptional quality of life in 2050 for us and for future generations.
