Description

Navigating a family member’s advanced serious illness can be complex and overwhelming. Children and teens are deeply impacted, often experiencing uncertainty, shifting roles, and grief throughout the course of illness. In this presentation, we will introduce Dougy Center and the Pathways Program, a peer support program for families living with an advanced serious illness. We’ll explore how grief shows up for children, teens, and caregivers, share strategies for talking with and supporting kids in age-appropriate ways, and discuss how caregivers can identify support for themselves.

Our presenter is Rebecca Hobbs-Lawrence, M.A who has over 25 years of experience, She is a leading voice at Dougy Center in supporting children and families navigating advanced serious illness. She holds a master's degree in human studies with a certificate in art therapy from Marylhurst University. As the coordinator of Dougy Center's Pathways program, she has been instrumental in shaping peer support groups for people who are living with an advanced serious illness and their families. Her work is guided by her extensive experience and the powerful stories of the families she has supported over the past decade through the program.

This is a complimentary event for those diagnosed with stage 4, metastatic breast cancer.
