Event description

About this Event

The world of academic publishing often feels like a mysterious black box. In this talk, we shine a light into this realm, sharing advice from the editorial desk. We review the editorial decision-making process, exploring factors that influence whether a manuscript is deemed worthy of further consideration: crafting compelling cover letters, framing research significance, and strategies for convincing editors a paper merits peer review. We explore the intricacies of managing peer review, tactics for attracting quality reviewers, navigating criticism, and leveraging feedback to strengthen the manuscript. Finally, we discuss effective dissemination strategies, like social media and academic networks, to maximize impact and visibility.

About the Presenter

Catherine Tait holds a PhD in Ecology from Colorado State University where her research focused on questions related to how differences in ecology shape cognitive and behavioral variation between individuals of four species of honeybee and how these differences impact foraging efficiency. Her post-doctoral research at the Center for Animal Cognition Research at the Université Paul Sabatier explored the interaction of global climate change biology and pollinator ecology by examining how nutritional variation during development impacted various phenotypic traits of insect pollinators. She is particularly interested in intersection of conservation biology, resource availability, and land use.
