MDC Meet-ups: August
Event description
Hello everyone! MDC Meet-up is back for August!
Join members of the Melbourne Development Circle community for an informal online discussion about how International Development practitioners (and researchers) are adapting, innovating and reacting to the challenges of work in this moment. We know that COVID-19 has had a huge impact on the sector, and will continue to do so for some time, and the impacts are being felt around the world. This event will provide the chance for those involved in the sector to connect, share experiences and ideas about how we can all adjust and find a new way of working and collaborating into the future.
August topic: Practicing Cooperative Leadership - experiences in partnering with communities to achieve local outcomes.
Joining us this month are Briana Jones and Angelos Blackwood.
Briana Jones
Bri is a final year Engineering (honours) student at the ANU with a keen interest in humanitarian engineering, specifically in WASH. She is completing her honours through Engineers Without Borders Research Program, is an Influencer Fellow, WASH Technical Program Contributor, Cambodia Hygiene Promotion Team and AgriLab Realtime Support Volunteer. In addition to this she is an Engineering for Change Water Research Fellow looking at developing a decision-making support tool for household water treatment with the context of rural communities within SEA and the Pacific. She is researching factors of which effect sustainable and successful implementation of HumEngn solutions. Within this there is a specific analysis on socio-economic factors and delivery of solutions, looking at how implementation techniques can be utilised to build community capacity and encourage community ownership of technology.
Angelos Blackwood
Angelos is a Senior Consultant at Clear Horizon. He is a monitoring and evaluation specialist with close to 10 years of experience in international development, including with the United Nations, World Bank and DFAT. Angelos is currently supporting organisations in Indonesia and PNG on their COVID-19 responses.
This informal session (not a webinar!) will be introduced by Lead Conversationalists and we encourage participants to share their development experiences and suggest discussion topics.
Can’t join for this one? MDC Meet-Ups will take place on the first Wednesday of the month. Watch out for this space for more!
These are free events, however, we encourage those who are in a position to do so to make a donation to cover costs.
