Meat Free Mondays Visits Algeria
Event description
April's destination on our plant-based tour of world cuisine is exotic ALGERIA with Karima Katharina!
In her own words, "Although I grew up in Germany, I have always been influenced by many different cultures. My father comes from a small region in the mountains of Algeria: Kabylia. The Kabylians are a group of the indigenous Amazigh people. Due to its diverse colonial history, Algeria and Algerian cuisine have many cultural influences, especially Mediterranean such as Turkish, Greek, Italian, but also Middle Eastern and sub-Saharan African. It is rich in spices, colors and flavors. I have fond memories of peeling tomatoes with my grandmother and the kitchen was ALWAYS the busiest place in the house. My family is very fond of good food and so I am happy to share a small part of the richness of Algerian cuisine and culture with you. Look forward to sweet dates and spices that warm the heart, as well as a little dance performance by the indigenous people of North Africa!"
