Mediator Ethics: Choose Your Own Mediation Adventure
Description
This interactive ethics training invites participants to step into the role of mediator in a fictional dispute involving a family-owned U-Pick flower farm navigating generational transition and business expansion. Through a series of real-world ethical dilemmas, participants will make decisions at key moments in the mediation process—from intake and assessing appropriateness of mediation to confidentiality, impartiality, and agreement.
Using live polling and facilitated discussion, participants will explore how the Virginia Standards of Ethics and Professional Responsibility for Certified Mediators apply to complex situations where ethical principles may compete. This engaging “choose-your-own-adventure” format encourages thoughtful reflection on how to apply mediator ethics to maintain the integrity of the mediation process.
