Medical research breakthroughs in Stroke and Dementia: Can we win the battle?


The Perron Institute invites you to a fascinating morning with two eminent scientists, and the team from the Perron Institute Stroke Research Centre. Stroke and Dementia are touching all our lives with increasing frequency. As we age, will we succumb to these diseases, or will medical science secure vital breakthroughs? Gain an insight into the research at the Perron Institute for Neurological and Translational Science aiming to eliminate these terrible diseases of the brain. Members of the Stroke Research Centre will outline their work in Global research, Stroke prediction, rehabilitation, genetics and AI-enabled research.

Professor Graeme Hankey,
recent recipient of an Order of Australia (AO) award for his lifetime contribution to Stroke research, is recognised as an international leader, author and teacher in stroke research. He is the inaugural Perron Institute Chair in Stroke Research at UWA, and founder of the Stroke Research Centre at the Perron Institute. 

John Curtin Distinguished Professor John Mamo has been appointed to the Perron Institute to facilitate translational research on Alzheimer’s disease and other neurological disorders. John is undertaking extensive research into the causes and a potential breakthrough in the treatment for Dementia.
