Medical Solidarity with Palestine: Advocacy, Ethics, and Action
Event description
Medical Solidarity with Palestine:
Advocacy, Ethics, and Action
Join us for this urgent online panel discussion examining the devastating assault on Gaza’s healthcare system and the urgent responsibility of medical professionals to speak out.
This event is hosted by Medical Association for Prevention of War (MAPW) and Perth Doctors Medical Aid for Palestine, and endorsed by Palestine Justice Movement Sydney.
The panel of speakers will shed light on Israel’s systematic targeting of healthcare and unpack how these attacks not only violate international law but also strike at the very core of medical ethics and human dignity.
The panel will also address the uncomfortable reality of Australian medical institutions’ silence and, in some cases, complicity in the face of genocide.
Most importantly, this discussion is about action. Together, we will explore strategies to mobilize within medical associations, build grassroots pressure, and push for concrete steps that uphold medical neutrality and defend the right to healthcare for all. This panel offers an opportunity not only to learn but to connect with others committed to transforming outrage into organized action.
The Event will feature:
Professor Leslie London: Chair of Public Health Medicine in the School of Public Health and Family Medicine at the University of Cape Town.
Tirza Leibowitz: Deputy Director, Physicians for Human Rights Israel (PHRI).
Dr Britt Suann: Junior doctor from Boorloo/Perth with the Perth Children's Hospital and a Fulbright scholar at Harvard University
Professor Nick Maynard: A leading consultant Upper GI Surgeon based in Oxford, with more than 25 years of experience, who worked in Gaza multiple times.
Join us on Monday, the 15th of September at 7PM AEST via Zoom.
Donations will be used to send aid to Gaza by 'Perth Doctors Medical Aid for Palestine'
