Meditation in the Gallery
Event description
Join us for a Deaf-led meditation and mental health workshop with Karli Dettman, an experienced Deaf clinical counsellor, yoga therapist, and director of Karli Health Centre (Victoria). With over 30 years’ experience in Deaf mental health and well-being, Karli brings a trauma-informed, culturally affirming approach to her therapeutic and yoga practices.
This workshop invites participants to explore the true meaning of embodied through mindful movement, listening, and connection. Together, we will cultivate presence, deepen awareness of the body’s rhythms and sensations, and reflect on how we coexist with others and the environment.
This peaceful session will also act as a talking circle and offer space for grounding, self-care, and intention-setting.
Following the meditation, participants will be provided with light refreshments whilst they experience the exhibition Embodied – A Deaf Perspective.
No prior meditation, mental health, or Auslan experience is needed.
This exhibition is supported in part by Deaf Connect and the Deaf Connect Grants & Sponsorship Program, and Northern Beaches Council as part of the Emerging Curator Program.
