Melbourne Coastcare Week Corporate Volunteering
Description
Volunteer with Landcare Australia this Coastcare Week
Coastcare Week runs during the first week of December, and is our final week of Corporate Volunteering for the year. In 2026, Coastcare Week runs 7-13 December.
This event is a combined event - so whether you have a small team, a national team with remote workers, or you're an employee with Volunteer hours to use, this is a great option to get involved and step out of the office to volunteer on a Coastcare project.
What to expect
You will be supporting the efforts of Landcare groups and volunteers to protect and regenerate the sand dunes and vegetation communities along the Bayside coastline.
The sand dunes along the Bayside coastline have an important function in the health of the beach, acting as barriers against the action of waves, tides and salt wind and are a source of sand for the beach during periods of erosion. Dune vegetation plays a vital role in this process, acting as a windbreak and trapping the deposited sand particles; whilst providing vital habitat to several species of birds and skinks. The woodlands and heathlands that once covered the area gave way to homes, commercial and industrial development, altering the landscape to such an extent that less than two percent of the area’s original plant or animal communities remain.
Activities will include removing invasive weeds using hand tools, and spreading mulch.
No experience necessary!
Experienced Landcare supervisors will provide a safety briefing and toolbox talk and support you throughout the day with each task, and will share their local environmental knowledge.
This activity requires a moderate to high level of physical activity, however please contact us if you have any concerns as we can often modify things to ensure all your team can participate.
