    Event description

Join the Regen.Melbourne network for this exciting workshop series that uses the Doughnut Model to engage institutions, organisations and individuals to explore the social, economic and ecological aspects of a post-COVID Melbourne.

Coming out of a devastating bushfire season, Melbourne was ready to accelerate the  tackling of some of the pressing social, economic and environmental issues in what was called the ‘Decade of action’. And then COVID stopped everything in its tracks.

Despite the impact of COVID, and perhaps because of it, it is now even clearer that we need to be resilient in our effort to realise this ‘Decade of action’.

    Workshop 4: An Empowered Melbourne

During this session we will collectively explore what an empowered Melbourne means to us. How can Melbourne provide a safe, just and free society to all of its citizens?

Elements that will be explored in this session include, but not limited to:

    • Peace & justice
    • Social equity
    • Political voice
    • Equality in diversity.

Together we will hear from thought leaders in this space, discuss how we are doing as a City, and uncover barriers and opportunities.

The focus will be on the social benefits of an empowered Melbourne, however throughout the session we will also explore the economic and ecological benefits/consequences.

    Melbourne Doughnut Economics Month

During February 2021, Regen.Melbourne will be convening a series of community workshops as part of a ‘Doughnut Economics’ month, every Monday between 1 February and 1 March 2021.

The workshops aim to explore five key foundation themes for a thriving Melbourne. These themes are based on a Melbourne contextualised version of the Doughnut Portrait Methodology, put forward by the Thriving Cities Initiative.

    The five sessions are:

    • 1 February 2021:        A Healthy Melbourne
    • 8 February 2021:        A Connected Melbourne
    • 15 February 2021:      An Enabled Melbourne
    • 22 February 2021:      An Empowered Melbourne
    • 1 March 2021:      A Ecologically Healthy Melbourne

The insights from these sessions will be used as part of a wider research and engagement process to inform a report with recommendations and a roadmap for the development of a City Portrait for Greater Melbourne.

Our sessions together won’t be aiming to solve these problems, rather they will be aiming to surface the unique nuances, challenges and opportunities that exist here in Melbourne.
