Sun, 30 Nov, 2pm - 3pm AEDT

Event description

The Melt Quartet will be stretching out into more free and responsive improvisation in this performance, using the space of the Drill Hall Gallery to allow loops to breath and develop, and incorporating some bass groove centred, electronic and rhythmic improvisation with layered percussion.

Melt began as a solo project for Jordan Rodger over a decade ago, as an outlet for improvisation. Creating music built from loops, grooves, and textures, the 'Melt sound' is based on spontaneity and linked with a love of automatic drawing - whatever comes first becomes the composition.

Melt live performances have taken on the form of solo guitar sets, duets with other artists and more recently a quartet, with the current lineup featuring Jordan Rodger, Advait Thakur, John Binos and Sam Eggins. The group have been working together to improvise over loose compositions spanning previous Melt releases.

Most of the compositions are based around a guitar improvisation - built from loops, melodies, textures walking the road paved by post-rock heroes such as Tortoise and the International Anthem roster, while also incorporating noise rock elements and Fugazi-style grooves
