Join us on Wednesday, October 21st from 6-7pm in the Heurich House Conservatory for our Member Friend-raiser and Fall beer tasting event!

Learn about DC’s brewing history and culture while you taste historic beers with friends.

BEER TASTING

Beer historians Pete Jones and Mike Stein of Lost Lagers will discuss their work and lead guided tastings of three of their historic beer revivals: Senate Lager and Maerzen from the Chr. Heurich Brewing Co., and Dynasty Brewing’s Wales Pale Ale, which was developed in collaboration with George Washington’s Mount Vernon.

All members and guests must be 21 years of age or older.
New members must note the name of a current member when signing up for that person to receive their gift.
Current members at any level are eligible for the gift. The new membership discount is only valid at the Individual or Dual level.

ARRIVAL INFORMATION

Upon arrival, please enter the Heurich House garden from New Hampshire Avenue. Event signage will direct you towards the meeting area.

The house is accessible via both stairs and elevator. Please email membership@heurichhouse.org for specific accessibility information and accommodations, including your preference for using the elevator instead of stairs.

The Heurich House Museum’s mission is to explore the American Experience through the legacy of German immigrant Christian Heurich and his Washington, DC brewery, and to create an equitable path to success for local small-scale manufacturers.

Our dual mission of public history education and public service is directly related to our core philosophy: that house museums should be dynamic and relevant to our modern communities.

The Heurich mansion was built in 1892-4 for German-American immigrant Christian Heurich (1842-1945), whose brewery was the largest in DC and a household name. It is the city's best-preserved example of Richardsonian Romanesque residential architecture and one of the most landmarked interiors in DC. The mansion incorporated many technological advancements, including metal speaking tubes, electric lighting, burglar alarms, and "fireproofing." The interior decoration and furnishings were made by numerous German-American craftspeople. The house remained in the Heurich family until 1956, when it was bequeathed to DC’s Historical Society. In 2003, a family-created non-profit purchased the house and turned it into a museum.
