Knowledge Exchange: Diversity and difference in men's experiences of mental health stigma and discrimination
Description
On Tuesday 24th November we bring together mental health practitioners, organisations and people with lived experience for a roundtable knowledge exchange to explore the diversity and difference in men's experiences of mental health stigma and discrimination.
We'll be joined by Nina Vaswani (Men Minds), Maria Hurtado (West of Scotland Regional Equalities Council), Andrew Houston (LGBT Health and Wellbeing), Jamie Rutherford (Men Matter Scotland), and Thomas Delaney (Speaker, Educator & Community Development Practitioner). Our panel support men's mental health across race, socio-economic deprivation, ethnicity, sexuality, gender identity, age, and disability.
We'll explore three key questions:
How do patriarchal concepts of masculinity contribute to mental health stigma and create barriers to help-seeking?
How can we better understand harmful systems of power and inequity and how they shape men’s experiences of mental health stigma and discrimination?
How do these intersecting factors affect men’s access to mental health services, and what does this mean for how we design and deliver support?
