Mental Health & Pastoral Care Institute Spotlight Session: Depression with Lyn Worsley

Event description

About this event

Lyn's talk will focus on the practicalities of experiencing and caring for someone with depression. She will outline great tools to use in supportive conversations and the benefits of taking a strength-based approach if you are finding the depression overwhelming.

You will also hear about the Raising Resilient Parents program developed by Lyn and Sarah Condie (our Co-Director) to support first time parents and help avoid post-natal depression. The program made use of Lyn’s ‘Resilient Doughnut’ and demonstrates the value of solution focused conversations, as well as providing a wonderful example of how a church can support new families in their church and local community.

If you are experiencing financial hardship, and are keen to attend this seminar, we have a limited number of tickets available at the reduced price of $10. Please email us at mentalhealthinstitute@mac.edu.au and we will be happy to provide you with a code.

Speaker: Lyn Worsley

Lyn Worsley is a clinical psychologist with a background in nursing and teaching. As the director of the Resilience Centre in Sydney, Australia, she has spearheaded significant and original research and training initiatives that have profoundly influenced solution-focused and client-centred therapies for over 26 years.

Lyn is the author of the Resilience Doughnut, a model that identifies strong contexts where resilience is nurtured during development and adulthood. This model has evolved into a foundational ecological framework for resilience, garnering international recognition. The Resilience Doughnut has been validated psychometrically as a valuable tool for individuals seeking to identify their most potent and supportive resources, helping them manage mental health challenges such as living with depression.

Lyn is pursuing a PhD in clinical psychology at Charles Darwin University, focusing on research with a socio-economic objective for mental health services.

Founded by Keith and Sarah Condie, the Mental Health & Pastoral Care Institute exists to resource churches and Christian believers alike, so that we can all be better equipped to understand mental health and to serve and love others well. The Institute provides biblically and psychologically informed training and resources about mental health and healthy relationships for churches and individuals.
