Mental Health 101 for Faith Leaders

A faith leader is anyone who provides guidance and leadership within a spiritual group or organization. The role of a faith leader may be vocational or volunteer, but either way they are often working with a variety of people.
Research shows that approximately 1 in 5 people in the United States will deal with some type of mental health concern during their life. So, by the very nature of working with people, faith leaders find themselves supporting those who are experiencing mental health concerns.
Faith leaders are also quite likely to find themselves leading people who have experienced trauma, possibly even trauma that occurred within a religious setting.
Yet, most faith leaders have received litte, if any, education or training on the topics of mental health and trauma.
This webinar is designed to close that gap and help faith leaders feel more equipped to serve their populations and to know what resources are available to support mental wellness.
The facilitator, Michelle F. Moseley, is a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor in the state of North Carolina. She currrently specializes in working with survivors of religious trauma and spiritual abuse, as well as those experiencing body image concerns, anxiety, and grief. She has approximately 15 years experience serving as a faith leader in various volunteer and vocational roles. She is uniquely qualified to help bridge the gap between faith leaders and mental health resources.
This webinar will provide information about general mental health, as well as specifics about creating trauma-sensitive spaces. Participants will also learn ways to care for their own mental health, while fulfilling their role as a faith leader. The day will end with an opportunity for discussion and a Q&A period.
