Event description

Course Outline: 
This 12-hour Standard Mental Health First Aid course, accredited by Mental Health First Aid Australia, will enable you to assist an adult who may be experiencing a mental health problem or mental health crisis until appropriate professional help is received or the crisis resolves, using a practical, evidence-based action plan. 

This course is based on guidelines developed through the expert consensus of people with lived experience of mental health problems and professionals.

At the completion of this course, participants will become accredited mental health first aiders through Mental Health First Aid

Learning Outcomes:

During this program you will increase your knowledge of:

  • The signs and symptoms of the common and disabling mental health problems and crisis situations
  • How to provide initial help and seek professional help
  • How to provide first aid in a crisis situation
  • How to give mental health first aid using the MHFA Action Plan, ALGEE.

Recommended for:

This course is suited to any adult. This course is not a therapy or support group, rather an education program to learn how to give mental health first aid to others.

About the trainer: Meg Hansson, Learning & Development Specialist, EML

Meg Hansson has worked in workers’ compensation, return to work and occupational health and safety for over 20 years. During this time Meg has applied her skills, knowledge and experience in a range of roles including as a trainer and facilitator, learning designer, advisor, Mental Health and WHS Specialist. Meg has extensive experience interpreting legislation and is passionate about helping learners achieve their career and study goals.
Meg holds a Diploma of Workplace Health and Safety, Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, Diploma of Fitness and a Diploma of Human Resources.
