Mentor Masterclass: Getting the most from a mentoring experience
Description
Get ready Sydney, Her Tech Circle Mentor Masterclass - is back!
This years topic is - Getting the most from a mentoring experience
Most mentoring advice is written for one side of the table. This Mentor Masterclass is different: it helps both mentees and mentors get more from a mentoring conversation, whichever seat they're in.
Amanda will lead everyone through her Mentoring Activation Framework, a practical, shared approach that mentors and mentees can use from the moment they sit down together. It answers the question so many attendees are quietly asking themselves, “If I got a coffee with a mentor, what would I even say?”, while also giving mentors, even the seasoned ones, a clear structure for creating a meaningful and useful conversation.
The timing couldn't be better. As AI and automation reshape how we work and learn, some of the traditional opportunities to develop skills and knowledge through everyday work are changing or disappearing. This makes the human side of learning even more valuable: sharing experience, transferring wisdom, exploring challenges together and learning through genuine conversation. Mentoring creates a powerful space for that to happen, and this session will help both mentors and mentees make the most of it.
Hear from the incredible Amanda Jones
Amanda Jones is the founder of MINT Mentoring Intelligence and creator of the Mentoring Activation Profile (MAP), an EQ-based tool designed to help people have more effective and emotionally intelligent mentoring conversations.
A leadership and mentoring strategist, facilitator and executive coach, Amanda works with organisations and individuals to build the capability that turns mentoring from a well-intentioned conversation into a meaningful opportunity for growth.
Her work is grounded in a simple belief: everyone deserves to thrive, and when mentoring is done well, it helps people do just that.
Objectives
1. Walk away with a framework you'll actually use.
Learn a practical, shared approach for getting real value from a mentoring conversation, whether you're the one asking questions or the one answering them.
2. Have the conversation you've been putting off.
Use that framework to move past the "what would I even say?" nerves and have a genuine, career-advancing conversation with a senior leader in the room, no matter which side of the table you're on.
Three Conversation Themes
Attendees will rotate through three mentoring conversations, each exploring one Element of the Mentoring Activation Framework:
Contracting: Get clear on what matters
Create focus for the conversation by identifying what would make it most useful and what you want to walk away with.
What would be most useful for us to talk about right now?
Capability: Grow knowledge and possibility
Explore what you want to learn, navigate or become better equipped for, drawing on shared knowledge and experience to develop new insight.
What are you trying to learn, navigate or become better equipped for?
Connection: Build trust and collaboration
Go below the surface by staying curious, being open and creating the conditions for an honest and meaningful conversation.
What would allow us to have a more open, honest and useful conversation?
Optional MAP inclusion
As an added part of the experience, participants can complete their own Mentoring Activation Profile (MAP) before the event. This short EQ-based self-assessment provides personalised insight into how you currently approach mentoring conversations across the three Elements of Contracting, Capability and Connection. You’ll arrive with your own MAP in hand, giving you a practical lens for the masterclass and an opportunity to put your insights into action during the speed mentoring conversations.
