Description

A Free Staged Reading of a new play by St. Louis Playwright Josh Neighbors!

Hosted by Contraband Theatre!

Synopsis

There are four hundred characters in Shakespeare's English Histories. Only thirty of them are women. These are their stories (kind of... not really). Welcome to Dr. Cobb's 'Shakespeare vs. Bechdel-Wallace' class. With ten plays on the syllabus and a somewhat unorthodox approach to teaching, Dr.Cobb has mixed reviews on RateMyProfessor. As they navigate the tediousness of this course and the turbulence in their personal lives, Cobb's students — Maggie, Jo, Katarina, Ava, Anne, CiCi, M.J., and Dolly — as well as the T.A. of the class, Ellie, find themselves conjuring the words and spirits of the women of Shakespeare’s plays.

“All the expected good we’re like to hear
For this play at this time is only in
The merciful construction of good women”
— Shakespeare’s Henry VIII
