Uniting runs a series of single session education programs for people who are considering making changes to their substance use. These programs are also available to people who are required to complete and education program as part of a court diversion order. The programs are offered online or in-person at our Coburg site.
Our alcohol and other drug courses:
- Alcohol Considering Change
- Cautious With Cannabis
- Methamphetamine Personal Education Program
- First Offender Court Intervention Service (FOCIS)
Each program runs for 2.5 hours and is FREE to attend. Each program focuses on identifying the effects and harms of using substances, the potential impacts on self and others, and strategies to help people reduce the negative impacts - whether that means controlling their use more, cutting down, stopping for a time, or maintaining changes they've made. We guide you through identifying your goals and supports and provide information about the next steps you may wish to take.
People who complete the course receive an official Certificate of Attendance, which can be provided to the courts to meet legal requirements for some diversion orders.
Our trainers bring extensive AOD experience and an engaging and interactive Group Facilitation style, and share their Lived Experience of substance use with attendees where helpful and appropriate.
We emphasise harm minimum strategies, not an abstinence-based approach and understand that everyone is walking their own path on their own journey.
Programs are for consumers (the general public), not for professionals working both in and out of the AOD sector.
