    Event description

MONSU Student Rights + Support is offering FREE Mental Health First Aid Training (MHFA) to all Mandarin-speaking International students enrolled at Monash University. With limited spots available, register now! Please note this training is only for Mandarin speakers.

This course will run over two sessions and delivered in Mandarin. The training will be in-person, at the Monash University Caulfield campus. Students must attend all sessions to receive their certification and accreditation. This training usually costs $300 but will be free for Monash University students, thanks to MONSU Caulfield. Registrations close Wednesday 14 August at noon.

    Session 1: Saturday 17/08/2024, 10 AM - 4:30 PM.

    Session 2: Saturday 24/08/2024, 10 AM - 4:30 PM.

All sessions include 1 hour each day for breaks.

MHFA Training in Mandarin will be delivered by accredited trainer and counsellor, Ada Poon. This training will teach you how to assist others experiencing mental health problems or crises. This includes practical and evidence-based action plans that may assist until professional help can be received. This course can also benefit your study or placement, and boost your resume.

To receive an accredited MHFA certificate from Mental Health First Aid Australia, students must attend the 12 hours of training and successfully complete an online assessment.

The content covered in the course includes:

    - Prevalence of mental health problems

    - Common mental health problems: depression, anxiety, psychosis and substance use

    - Mental health crisis behaviours: self-harm, suicidal thoughts and behaviours, panic attacks, aggressive behaviours and traumatic events

    - Skills and techniques to support people encountering mental health issues or a crisis

Why are we running this training?

Many students are dealing with a stigma surrounding mental health issues. By providing this training, MONSU Caulfield hopes to encourage International Students to seek help for themselves and their peers.
