This event has passed Get tickets

Event description

Members of UNSW's Mental Health First Aid network are invited to attend our next Lunch & Learn.

This time it will be in person, with an opportunity to connect over lunch before learning more on the important topic of suicidal thoughts and how we can provide support to students, colleagues and those in our personal life who may experience them. After learning how to help others, we will focus on how to help ourselves with a chat about self-care and wellbeing.

Not a Network Member?
If you are not a member of the network just yet but are interested in joining, feel free to grab a ticket and come along.

What is the Mental Health First Aid Network?
UNSW Health Promotions Unit are developing partnerships with colleagues in faculties who wish to develop a visible network of mental health literate students who drive positive wellbeing messaging and can offer peer support and referrals to other students in their programs.

Faculties are supported by the Health Promotions Unit to adapt and implement the network, and support in recruitment, promotion and structures is also offered. MHFA and other relevant training (e.g. communication and cultural competence) is coordinated by the Health Promotions Unit.

Our Vision:

  1. A visible network of student peers from each UG and PG program within the faculty, offering peer support and mental health referrals to other students.
  2. Regular school and faculty-wide initiatives to promote student wellbeing and promote early help-seeking for mental health problems, driven by students.
  3. Regular opportunities for professional development for network members including additional training, lunch and learns etc.
  4. Wellbeing support is offered from centralised Student Wellbeing teams.

How To Become a Member
To join the Mental Health First Aid Network you will need to complete the Mental Health First Aid Training. Just like physical First Aid courses that train members of the public to provide basic first aid to someone with a physical health condition, MHFA teaches skills to help someone who is experiencing a mental health problem.
