Mental Health for Older People Masterclass

This masterclass is designed to equip health and aged care staff with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to better support the mental health of older people. Participants will gain a practical understanding of common mental health conditions in later life, including depression, anxiety, and cognitive decline, and learn how to identify early warning signs and risk factors.

The session provides hands-on training in the use of common mental health screening tools, building staff confidence in recognising concerns and documenting them effectively. Participants will also strengthen their ability to respond appropriately to people in distress or crisis, using person-centred, empathetic approaches. Guidance on when and how to escalate concerns ensures that staff know the right pathways for timely support and intervention.

By the end of the masterclass, attendees will be better prepared to promote wellbeing, reduce risks, and deliver safe, compassionate care.
