Event description
It’s the Soil that Counts – Soil Microscopy Foundation Workshop
One-day intensive | Max 8 participants | $325pp | 10:00am – 4:00pm
Healthy soil grows healthy plants—and at the heart of it all, are the soil microbes, nature’s tiny engineers. This hands-on workshop introduces you to the fascinating world of soil life through the lens of a light compound (biological) microscope. You’ll learn to identify key microbes—bacteria, fungi, protozoa, and nematodes—in your own soil and gain practical insight into how they help cycle nutrients, improve soil structure, retain moisture, and build ecosystem resilience.
Whether you’re on a town block, a rural property, or managing a market garden, this workshop will give you the knowledge and skills to:
Confidently use a light compound microscope to explore your soil
Understand the soil food web and how it underpins plant health
Identify microbial life in your own soil sample
Discover strategies to attract and support beneficial microbes
Included are use of a microscope, workbook, consumables, plus an assessment of a soil sample (bring one from your place!) and a 30-minute follow-up Q&A session via Zoom, to help you consolidate your learning and ask questions after practicing at home.
These workshops are interactive, small group learning experiences—ideal for individuals, educators, regenerative land managers, or those exploring soil biology for commercial application.
