Mighty Mohaka 2024

Lock-in the date for PRANZ' Mighty Mohaka weekend. The trip will take place over Labour weekend 2024. 

This is a trip for people who have done some river running and are comfortable with paddling Grade 2 / 2+ rapids. There will be plenty of experienced people to help out for those that are just starting out so don’t be shy.
 Make sure you fill up with fuel leaving Napier or Taupo as we will be doing a few shuttles and there are no fuel stations in the area!
It's polite to flick your shuttle driver some $$ for petrol too some bring some cash. 

Schedule:

Arrive Friday 25th afternoon / evening and setup camp at Mohaka River Farm ready for action the following morning

 Mohaka River Farm is off SH5 between Taupo and Napier. Participants must bring all their own food, shelter, bedding etc for two nights and 3 days. This is a well equipped camp site with hot showers and cooking facilities. www.mohakariverfarm.co.nz
There is now an option to book your camping site when paying here. Group price is cheaper than booking through Mohaka farms direct.

Saturday 26th October:
If numbers allow, we will split up into two groups with one heading to run the upstream section back down to Mohaka River Farm. This is a long shuttle to the Pakaututu road bridge its 1 1/2 hours but a good day trip. The other half will spend a day on the lower Mohaka doing some river safety skills training with senior Raft guide Dion Warren from Raft Fish NZ. 

Sunday 27th October:
 The reverse of Saturday. the team that was doing the training heads out to run the upper Mohaka back down to Mohaka River Farm

Monday 28th October:

For those still keen for more we will run the Te Hoe section which is a cracker. It does have a few grade 3 rapids but all can be scouted and portaged as required. plenty of excitement and a good way to putt all the practice from the previous two days to work.
