About this event

Join us on Thursday, 24th October, 6pm at GridAKL/John Lysaght for a special Migrants in Tech Auckland Meet-Up, where we unite with Women in Tech to bring you an inspiring evening of tech stories, insights, and networking!

This event will feature some awesome guest speakers. Dhan-nun Ahmed from Xero, Jeanelle Ooi from Auror, and Kenneth Gustilo a serial entrepreneur, who will share their unique journeys in the tech sector. Hear first-hand how these professionals navigated the challenges and opportunities of building a career in tech in Aotearoa.

✨ Dhan-nun Ahmed (they/he) is a Software Engineer at Xero of Kenyan-Somali background. Being a migrant they have lived experience of navigating the New Zealand tech industry and the barriers to entry here. They often envision systemic change that could lead to more sustainable and equitable outcomes for migrants and other marginalised communities, in any form they take -- social or technical.

✨ Jeanelle Ooi
(she/her) is Malaysian Chinese, born in a small Malaysian town called Alor Setar and migrated to Auckland when she was 11. Growing up, she observed her mum navigate the job market in New Zealand whilst learning how to adapt to a new culture, this ultimately led her to a career in Recruitment. She’s now a mum to a cheeky 4 year old boy who keeps her on her toes. She balances motherhood alongside a busy career in a Talent & People Experience role at Auror. She cares deeply about diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging and in her role, she’s focused on helping build a great culture where everyone can do their best work and be their best selves.

✨ Kenneth Gustilo
(she/her) is a serial entrepreneur and has founded TerePay, a company specialising in fintech solutions, and Synergy Care, a community care provider. As a migrant in New Zealand, she has faced and overcome many challenges while integrating into the tech industry. She is passionate about mentoring others and promoting diversity in tech, especially for women and migrants, and believes in the power of inclusive technology to drive societal change.

Whether you’re looking to gain inspiration, connect with like-minded individuals, or learn more about the diverse experiences in tech, this event is for you. Our speakers will provide practical tips, personal experiences, and advice to help guide you on your own professional journey.
