About White Men My Age:

The poetic recollections and reflections of a white American male born in the 1950s, created with the help of people for whom white American males born in the 1950s have been historically problematic.

About Mike Bonifer:

Mike Bonifer is a poet and storyteller based in Los Angeles. He is the editor of Shooting Stars At Sky—The Poetry of Play, an anthology of sports poems published by Mama's Kitchen Press in 2025. He develops and performs his poetry, and shares his stories, at the Anansi Writers Workshop in Leimert Park and at other venues around Southern California. His company, Gamechangers, utilizes quantum storytelling to help organizations and individuals improve collaborations and performances. He will always be interested in how your story and his story become our story.

Praise for White Men My Age:

"Bonifer is an amazing poet and storyteller, who has lived a Forrest-Gumpian life, having been present for every major event in human history with a first hand account of what really happened. He has, in all of his poetry, this amazing ability to see, hear and write the events that really mattered, and capture the full attention of anyone who will listen or read. He is one of the best Occasion poets I have ever heard, keenly capturing what we all should hold onto in the moments when we honor our local and national heroes. A poet is someone who sees what others miss; someone who can pluck out and gold plate the special details happening in this grand and glorious life. This book is a chapter- based time capsule waiting to be opened and explored for all of its treasures." -- Hiram Sims, founder, The Sims Library of Poetry and the Community Literature Initiative; co-founder, World Stage Press; City of Los Angeles Public Library Commissioner

"White Men My Age pulls you into a certain kind of blues from the other side of the tracks. Vivid poetic memories that stretch from JFK to Tiger Woods. There is an alchemy in the way Bonifer’s pen cuts the paper and how the truth bleeds out and develops on the parchments. His technique is meticulous and deliberate and if you listen closely, you may hear a few swan songs." --Tommy Domino, author of Switches, Hot Wheel Tracks and ExtensionCords

"Mike Bonifer has written a book of delightful, entertaining, insightful and constantly surprising poems. For more than 40 years, I’ve followed his path from top Disney motion picture publicist (“Tron,”“Dick Tracy”), to screenwriter, producer, author, motivational speaker, innovator in using improvisation in the workplace, and other endeavors. I’m so impressed with his passion for poetry and his dedication to expressing himself with imagination and courage in this unique art form. I think you will be too." -- Howard Green, Senior Disney Animation Publicity Executive/Historian

"Thoughtful and clever with just the right mix of experiences that apply to our modern world and society. A touch of humor here and there reminds us not to take ourselves too seriously. The type of quality writing I have come to expect from Mike Bonifer." --Jeff Roberts, Ph.D.

"White Men My Age is a necessary collection—surrendered from the soul and gifted to nourish the soil and landscape of poetry. Bonifer's carefully-crafted pages are soaked with poignant authenticity and catharsis stitched into every piece. In this body of work, with the unearthing of each poem, we find ourselves unraveling a crucial voice that becomes a friend. Bonifer's voice becomes a familiar echo in a hallway of truth-seekers and eager spectators as he splatters images and words onto each page like an inkblot projection of personality onto papyrus." --Ravina Wadhwani, author of Yellow

"White Men My Age is an imperative look into the character and an assessment of one of the most reproachful, compassionate, hated, beloved, overachieving and misunderstood creatures of the known universe: the White Man in American Society in the 21st Century, as seen through the eyes of one of America’s most poignant White citizens, the poet Mike Bonifer. Bonifer’s brilliantly distinct poetic documentation and explication of the self navigates the reader beyond ethnicity and culture and ventures past the physical and into the spiritual realm through waves of uncertainty to arrive at the uncharted shores of enlightenment." --Carlos Ornelas, author of Ketchup: Sopa de Gato; Acquisitions Editor, Community Literature Initiative

"BONAFIDE or “BONIFIED”—it means to make something good. It only takes one word to describe the work of White Men My Age...applause, APPLAUSE!" --V. Kali, author of Hymn; Facilitator, Anansi Writers Workshop

"In this collection of poems, Mike Bonifer uses a magic wand and brings us into his world. These poems will make you feel like you have a front seat at the table while he weaves each story. He is transparent, witty and poetic. You will fall in love with Rosie as he describes her entering this world in a storm. You will feel like you know his childhood friends as he lists their nicknames. White Men My Age is a book you will want to read over and over." --Jaha Zainabu, Artist-In-Residence, Woman Preach! Inc.; author of I Am Writing to Tell You and 365:2013 A Poem a Day Series

"Clever, creative writing! I have known Mike nearly all my life. I can feel the emotion that he evokes by describing his life experiences.“Regret” is particularly touching. He has delivered a gift for us to enjoy!" --Jerry Wehr, M.D., grade school classmate

"The poems are truly moving. I am looking forward to reading them many, many times. My hat is off not only to Mike's intellect, but the motivation and discipline it must take to create artwork at this level. BRAVO!" --Marty Newman, high school classmate

"Bonifer looks back on life and observes relationships with clear-eyed memory and empathy—the hard love of and for a father, the birth of a grandchild, of goats and GOATS, of witting pretenders who mock and are unwittingly mocked by fate. His poetry is accessible and erudite without pretension, expressive of catholic truths with a cadence that draws and locks in the reader who is free to feel as well as understand." --Bill Powers, college classmate
