Million Metres Planting Day – Te Whanganui-a-Tara Wellington

This event has passed Register

Event description

We invite SBN Investors, Alsco Team Members & Friends to help take care of New Zealand’s waterways! Million Metres is thrilled to invite you along to a planting day at Baring Head co-hosted with our Foundation Partner, Alsco and coordinated by Conservation Volunteers New Zealand.

Grab your gumboots and enjoy a morning out in nature helping restore this beautiful river.

We’ll be getting stuck in planting native plants and trees along a section of the Wainuiomata River where it flows through Baring Head reserve. The river and its surrounds are home to many species of native fish and birds. Planting the river banks will improve habitat by stopping sediment and other pollutants entering the water and creating homes for birdlife. Your contribution will help make a real difference!

The day will finish up with a shared barbeque provided by Alsco.

Our community partners Conservation Volunteers NZ, Friends of Baring Head and Greater Wellington Regional Council will lead the planting effort on the day and be available to answer questions about the restoration work and vision for the site.

*Please register so we can ensure enough kai and spades on the day.

**Carpooling is encouraged as Baring Head is 45 minutes from central Wellington. Please register your interest in carpooling and we will do our best to connect people up!

***Please be advised the rain date for this planting day is 4 September. In the event we need to move to the rain date, we will contact you to let you know.

****We’ll meet at the carpark for the East Harbour Regional Park Entrance on Coast Road. And then walk together to the planting site. Google Maps location here.
