    Event description

The Catholic Walking Club of Victoria invites you to join them on the Millionaires Walk, from Sorrento to Portsea Return.  This walk is part of the Try Bushwalking Month, celebrating the 90th Anniversary of Bushwalking Victoria, the peak body representing 60+ bushwalking clubs across Victoria.

Join this coastal walk past gracious Edwardian era homes and gardens. Extensive Bay views, pretty coves, jetties, boat sheds, historic structures. Some beach walking and sections of an Artists’ Trail. A photographer’s delight!

    DISTANCE:  10km approx. return

WHO IS THIS WALK FOR? Walkers of reasonable fitness, who enjoy history and seascapes.

CHILDREN AND PETS:  This walk is for adults 18 years and over, and due to the nature of the walk, we ask you to leave dogs and other pets at home.  Please contact the club directly to inquire about service animals, and any family or pet friendly walks.

AWT GRADE 2 (Easy): Suitable for most ages and fitness levels, with two short, steep descents.  AWT Grade information.

PACE: Slow and steady, with opportunities for photography

TOTAL ASCENT: 80 metres. Two short steep descents and a few moderate uphill sections.

    WALK DESCRIPTION:

Walk includes a great variety of residential, coastal and historic features, including a famous section along the clifftops overlooking the Bay between Sorrento and Portsea, dubbed, for obvious reasons, “The Millionaires Walk”.  After picnic lunch at Portsea Front Beach we will return via a good pedestrian path along Point Nepean Road, and see “the other side” of homes we have passed on the clifftops.  Sealed paths, sandy tracks and beach walking.  Bring water and if needed, refill bottles at Portsea.

MEETING POINT:  The main entrance to Sorrento Historic Park, at the corner of Point Nepean Road and Hotham Road (near the roundabout at MEL 157 B7).  Please allow at least 10 minutes to park in the carpark further along Point Nepean Road towards Portsea, or in Hotham Road, and walk to the meeting point.

DIRECTIONS: Google map: https://maps.app.goo.gl/N3S2i9XHDPDVTgyL7.  From Melbourne, follow Point Nepean Road to Sorrento Historic Park.

CARPOOLING/PUBLIC TRANSPORT:  Bus 788 runs from Frankston to Portsea, via Sorrento. The bus stop in Sorrento is about 10 minutes walk from the meeting point.

PHONE SIGNAL:  Available through most of the walk

TOILETS: Sorrento Historic Park near the meeting point and finish; Portsea Front Beach at lunch spot.
