Mimouna is a North African celebration that marks the end of Pesach. It marks the end of the time period when many Jews observe the commandment to neither eat nor possess chametz during the 8 days of Pesach. It was the tradition for Jewish families in Morocco to symbolically “sell” the chametz from their homes to their Muslim neighbours, who would usually return it in the form of fresh cakes and cookies after Pesach ended. In return, Jewish families would host lavish Mimouna celebrations, opening their homes to family, friends and neighbours–Jewish and non-Jewish alike.
To celebrate Mimouna and Break Bread, we encourage you to invite friends from the wider community (Jewish and non-Jewish alike)!
