Join visual arts teacher and artist Hannah Graney for a restorative day of creativity, mindfulness and connection with nature at Deep Creek Retreat, nestled beside Deep Creek National Park on the Fleurieu Peninsula.
Inspired by the Nature Festival 2026 theme, Seed, this immersive retreat invites you to slow down, observe deeply and explore the small beginnings from which creativity grows. Surrounded by sweeping views across Deep Creek National Park towards Kangaroo Island, you'll spend the day engaging with the landscape through observation, reflection and artistic exploration. Participants will develop their own creative response to place through a series of drawing and mark-making activities inspired by native seed pods, flowers and the natural environment.
Suitable for beginners and experienced creatives alike, this retreat offers a welcoming space to reconnect with yourself, nature and the creative process.

About the Facilitator
Hannah Graney is an artist, visual arts teacher and qualified yoga instructor with a passion for sharing the important relationship between creativity and wellbeing, through observation. She has a Bachelor in Fine Arts from the National Art School where she studied painting, and Masters in Teaching. Hannah draws her inspiration from time spent outdoors observing the natural environment, with strong focus on the Australian landscape and its diverse plant life.
Through her teaching, Hannah encourages participants to approach drawing with openness and curiosity whilst removing self-judgement to create a warm and supportive environment.

- Do I need any drawing experience?
No. This retreat is designed for beginners as well as those with an established creative practice. The focus is on observation, exploration and enjoyment rather than technical skill.
- What can I expect from the day?
You'll enjoy a relaxed day combining mindfulness, nature connection and creative exploration. Through guided activities, you'll spend time observing the landscape, drawing from natural forms and developing your own creative response to place.

- What should I bring?
Please wear comfortable clothing suitable for the weather and sturdy walking shoes. Bring a water bottle, hat, sunscreen and a light jacket. You may also wish to bring a camera or binoculars, although these are optional.
- Will we be walking?
There will be gentle walks around the retreat grounds and nearby areas for observation. No strenuous hiking is planned, but participants should be comfortable walking on uneven outdoor surfaces.
- Is lunch provided?
Yes! A delicious, catered lunch and afternoon tea with something sweet are all included. Light refreshments will be available throughout the day. Please advise of any dietary requirements when booking.
- What will I take home?
You'll leave with your drawings, creative journal, new drawing techniques and a renewed sense of inspiration and connection with nature.
- Can I come on my own?
Absolutely. Many participants attend on their own. The retreat offers a warm and welcoming environment where individuals can enjoy quiet reflection while also connecting with others through shared creative experiences.
- Will there be yoga or meditation?
The retreat includes gentle mindfulness and nature-connection activities designed to help participants slow down and become more present. No yoga experience is required, and there are no formal yoga sessions.

Rather than focusing on creating polished artwork, this retreat invites you to experience drawing as a way of observing, slowing down and connecting with the natural environment. It's as much about the process of seeing as it is about making art.
