Event description

More than just a gig.

Music, art and storytelling have a way of connecting us individually and collectively to the depth of human emotion and experience like nothing else.

Through art we can look the deepest despair squarely in the eye, honour it, and release with hope, beauty, empowerment and gratitude.

Mindfull Shift is a not-for-profit community event highlighting the gifts and talents of lived experience artists.

We want to change the way we think about mental "wealth". Together.

Join us for a very special evening of music, art and connection delivered with a gentle dash of humour that aims to break barriers and shift minds so that we can share, support and recognise the beauty, challenge and transformational power of our collective journey towards wellbeing.

We guarantee you will ~ feel ~ something.

Because we've all been there in one way or another. And we all have gifts to share with the world. 🌻

OUR FEATURE ARTISTS

Special live music performances by:

PODARE

Podare is a versatile and accomplished singer-songwriter, renowned for their multi-instrumental prowess. With a deep passion for music, Podare weaves intricate melodies and soulful lyrics into their compositions, creating a sonic tapestry that resonates with audiences worldwide. Their artistry transcends boundaries, effortlessly blending genres and instruments to craft unique and evocative songs. A true storyteller at heart, Podare's lyrics capture the essence of the human experience, offering a profound connection to listeners. With a distinctive voice and a masterful command of various instruments, Podare's performances leave an indelible mark, inviting all to join them on a musical journey filled with depth, emotion, and creativity.

HANNAH CAMPBELL

Hannah Campbell is a warm, discerning, and joyfully vulnerable storyteller recently move to the Gold Coast from Melbourne.  Her songwriting echoes of folky roots through stories of failings and hopefulness, desire, emotional vacancy, and unspoken truths.

Her performances are dynamic in their emotional intensity, with her trademark undercurrent of honest humility keeping audiences enthralled.

Her single Run Like Wolves received high praise from Triple J’s Roots N’ All presenter Nkechi Anele, who said “Her voice is just one of those old timey voices that could be from any generation.”

Hannah Campbell’s music seems to gently sidestep any specific category, but when you come to one of her shows you can be sure to experience "a viscerally captivating offering of Folk Alchemy." - AnR Factory

Hannah Campbell's performances are dynamic and exciting.  Her band show draws influence from Crowded House, Arctic Monkeys and Paul Kelly, bringing emotional intensity, that late 80's jangle, and arrangements you can dance and sing along to.

KARL S WILLIAMS

He’s a wrecking ball, a loaded gun. He’s an unmerciful magistrate. He’s “a daisy-cutting, motherfucking judgement day.”
— Martin Farrer, The Guardian

Karl S. Williams… A genre defying, multi-instrumentalist and award-winning artist with a voice and conviction so powerful it takes your breath away. Karl's music is timeless and deeply rooted in tradition yet ever conversant with the present. Drawing from folk, blues and gospel his songs are steeped in the swamp water of the northern NSW cane country where he was raised, lending the distinct flavour of this land to all his work.

Distilling life, love and the human condition, his music calls with urgency and sings without apology. His solution and vocation: to love more. A Karl S. Williams performance - either solo or with his band - is frequently referred to as a spiritual experience, leaving an audience slightly altered in the best way possible.

So good, it might save your life!
— Noel Mengel, Courier Mail: Review of Heartwood

For over a decade Karl has performed at festivals and venues throughout the country including Bluesfest, the Woodford Folk Festival, Festival of Small Halls, Dark MOFO, Panama, Queenscliff Music Festival and the Tamworth Country Music Festival, among many others.

In 2022 as the world slowly regained its equilibrium, Karl continued to work on writing and recording. The result is a collection of new songs, lost songs and unreleased material recorded alone and live-to-tape. Simple, unadorned and vital, they mark a full circle in his artistic journey and capture the essence of his solo performance as never before. The first volume of this material will be released September 1st, 2023 and Karl looks forward to sharing these songs with audiences in intimate performances throughout the country.

In 2020, Karl released his second band album, 'Lifeblood' (Winner – Release of the Year - GCMAs 2021), just as the COVID pandemic took hold. ‘Lifeblood’ sits alongside his critically acclaimed debut, ‘Heartwood’ (2014).

All killer, no filler from start to finish, ‘Lifeblood’ is an absolute winner
— Zac Fahey - Blank GC

The events will be delivered in Brisbane, Sunshine Coast and Gold Coast in 2023. Target groups include people with lived experience of mental health challenges or psychosocial disability, carers, arts industry professionals and the general community as well as community organisations, local government, mental health providers and government agencies as key stakeholders in the conversation and action to create change.
